White over black

Can you successfully tattoo white over black areas?

I mean, let's say a big black square. Could you tattoo something in white inside the black square?

there is a show a while back called 'tattoo highway' run by the artist with the other las vegas tattoo show.

on one episode he tattoos a friend with an existing full black sleeve. tattooed white on black. showed up pretty nice, better than i would have thought. google around and check it out.

Yes, its most definitely possible, the black has to be faded to a certain extent and the white will quite possibly turn gray over time, But then again you can keep going over it after it heals and it will hold for a long time. But it really depends on just how faded the black is, that will determine how white it will stay. Also putting the white in with a liner or a round will give you the best results for something like that. (typically)

mike said it. healed black will take white, but it will def turn gray over time. get some prisma markers and work ur stuff out on paper, that gives the best simulation.

RE:White over black

.

i did it quite a few times, sometimes on very strong black. i always needed at least 2 sessions to get it close to something you could call white. on the strong black it always turned out a bit blueish and not every tattoo stood the test of time, but the latter might have also reasons like too much exposure to sunlight etc.
after all i can say i try to avoid such work if possible. sometimes i used white as first step for cover ups, where the old design is too strong just to lighten it up for colouring at the following session.

...erm... this homepage is a bit of a joke, am i right?

did you notice them promoting a cheap chinese crap beginners set with 4 "tattoo machine guns"? i already was given one of exactly those models from a friend, who intended me to tune and hotrod that shite somehow, but best would have been i threw everything out and keep the pure frame, because even the scews were cheapest crap. but even the frame is plain rubbish- bent metal sheet not, even straight. it was by far the worst piece of junk i ever held in my hands- and believe me, i have seen quite a few crap "machine guns" during all those years. and i have also a few doubts about those inks- let's say i wouldn't even dare to paint on good cardboard with them...
